Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:5
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Reflection: The Apostle Paul admonishes us to show moderation to everybody and to be mindful of the fact that the Lord is at hand. The phrase ‘the Lord is at hand” within the admonishment simply means that God is watching whether we will show moderation or not in life. The word moderation is a Christian trait, attitude or behaviour. Translated from the Greek ‘epieikes’, moderation encompasses meanings such as equitable, fair, patient, mild, gentle: It describes someone who ‘willingly yield’s his or her own right to show consideration and kindness to others’ no matter what. People you deal with need not merit being shown gentleness and kindness before you offer it. Often times people decide who to be gentle to and considerate with while they forsake others. But until you yield your own right to show consideration and kindness to others you will be missing the mark. Remember Jesus left a hallmark of being a personality with a meek and gentle spirit ( 2 Corinthians 10:1) and so must you. Maturing in Christ must bring us to the place where we exercise restraint and show reasonableness in our dealings with people. Indeed be Christlike and let everyone see that you are gentle and kind to all!
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me yield my own right in order to show consideration and kindness to people I encounter in life.
Confession: I will be gentle and considerate in my dealings with people. I will show them kindness without reservations.
