Scripture Reading: 1Peter 1:13
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ
Reflections: The Apostle Peter writes to confirm the doctrines that the Jewish Christians in the Diaspora had already been taught. His purpose was to encourage them to hold on to the truth until the coming of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. In doing so, he admonished them, among others, to ‘gird up the loins of their minds. This implies that they needed to exercise self-control, Self-control is in the domain of the mind. It is how you train your mind to hold up your ‘emotions and impulses so that they conform to a certain standard of behaviour in all circumstances. By doing so, you intentionally choose to stay on track and do what is right all the time. To be successful in every sphere of life, self-control plays a critical role. Like the Jewish Christians, develop and exercise self-control as you await the coming of the Lord! This will help you keep to the path of righteousness without wavering.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to exercise self-control.
Confession: I exercise self-control in all circumstances.
