Scripture Reading: Numbers 32:7-9
And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.
Reflections: The tribes of Israel marched on in their bid to occupy the promised land. Before they crossed the Jordan however, the tribes of Reuben and Gad brought a request before Moses. They were no longer interested in undertaking the journey. They had spotted the land of Gilead which was good for raising livestock and wanted Moses to give it to them as their inheritance. This meant that they were no longer going to be involved in warfare, leaving this duty only to be undertaken by the rest of the tribes. This was bound to spark of discouragement among the others in the camp and Moses had to spend time talking them out of it. This revived the spirit of the entire camp and enabled them to march forward towards achieving the common goal. It is important to weigh your actions in this life as you relate with people. Seek to compliment their efforts so that together a common goal would be achieved. Unlike the tribes of Reuben and Gad, choose to become a source of encouragement to others!
Prayer: Oh Lord help me break away from attitudes that would prove to discourage others..
Confession: I will not be a source of discouragement to others. I will remain a source of great encouragement to many.
