Monday, 22nd January 2017: You must say no to the spirit of setbacks!

Scripture Reading: Ezra 5:1-2
Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them. Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

Reflection: After being in captivity for so long, God gave the Jews a breakthrough through a decree issues by King Cyrus for them to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their city. Many Jews therefore left Babylon and made the long journey back to their homeland to start the reconstruction work. This was a great step forward. But the enemy hit hard and the work on the temple ceased. This was an unexpected setback. Unfortunately the setback held them up for 16 long years until the prophets Haggai and Zechariah rose up to confront the situation. The spirit of setback can have a field day in one’s life until it is confronted. When this Spirit is in operation, one’s life can move in circles. It may set up a mechanism that makes you go forward a bit and then backwards again and this process can go on and on like for a long long time. In such a condition you will never see any significant progress in your life. You will encounter stagnation. Like Haggai and Zachariah, you must arise and say no to the spirit of setback.

Prayer: Oh Lord, anoint me to break away from the spirit of setback

Confession: I break every spirit and power of setback in my life in Jesus name.
