Scripture Reading: Judges 16:29-21 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house
Reflections: Delilah tricked Samson three times in order to reveal the source of his powers. He lied about the origin of his power twice, overpowering the Philistine soldiers Delilah unleashed on him. On the third attempt, he provided the correct information, lost his supernatural ability when Delilah cut off his hair, and the soldiers eventually overpowered him. Samson exhibited an arrogant attitude of overpowering invincibility. Someone who exhibits a sense of superiority, or self-importance is described as being arrogant. This person frequently exudes an overconfidence that goes beyond what is reasonable. Arrogance impairs your ability to remain vigilant and leaves you vulnerable to surprise attacks that you cannot withstand (1 Cor 10:12). Keep your ego under control in life!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me keep my ego under control.
Confession: I keep my ego under control.
