Monday, 1st March 2021: Yes, you can put that ‘roaring lion ‘to flight!

Scrippture Reading: 1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Reflections: Peter describes the devil as an enemy who is like a roaring lion. The descriptive phrase ‘roaring lion’ has a lot to say. Lions who hunt for preys do not originally roar while doing so unless something has happened to them. In hunting, the lions who are young and energetic do so stealthily and swiftly because they have such strength and every teeth to do so. However as they grow old, they loose a couple of teeth and are therefore not that very capable in striking and tearing their prey apart. In that instance, when they spot a prey, they roar before they attack. The roaring is meant to intimidate the prey with fear. Once the prey gets afraid, it looses its strength to resist a lion that lacks the full complement of teeth to bite and kill instantly. The semi toothless and no longer strong lion now has all the opportunity, freedom and time to strike, albeit slowly and with some difficulty, to devour the fear-filled prey. The devil was defeated and disengaged of his authority by Jesus on the cross. Now he has to roar before he can kill. Don’ give him the platform of fear to succeed. Remain fearless and keep resisting him. He will surely run away! Yes, you can put that ‘roaring lion’ (devil) to flight!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for defeating the devil on the cross. Help me never to forget that he is only now acting like a roaring lion.

Confession: The devil is only like a roaring lion. I am fearless. I resist him all the time.
