Scripture Reading:1 Samuel 16:2-3 (KJV):
“And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.”
Reflections: Samuel, though a prophet, recognized the danger of openly anointing a new king while Saul still reigned. His question, “How can I go?” shows his awareness of the risk and dependence on God for direction. In response, God gave him a wise strategy—take a heifer and offer a sacrifice, making the visit appear routine. This guidance protected Samuel and ensured God’s will was accomplished without conflict. This passage highlights the importance of wisdom in fulfilling God’s purposes, especially in sensitive situations. Wisdom involves discernment and the application of knowledge that honors God and aligns with His will. God invites us to seek wisdom whenever we need it, as James 1:5 says: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Prayer: Lord, guide my steps and give me the courage to act wisely in every circumstance.
Confession: I receive God’s wisdom to navigate life’s challenges.
