Scripture Reading: Acts 17:4-5 (KJV)
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.”
Reflections: The ministry of Paul and Silas in Thessalonica was bearing fruit—many people, including devout Greeks and influential women, believed the gospel. However, some Jews refused to believe and allowed envy to take root in their hearts. Instead of seeking the truth, they were more concerned about losing influence and power. Envy blinded them to God’s work and led them to plot evil. They gathered troublemakers, incited a riot, and attacked the house of Jason, where Paul and Silas were staying. Their jealousy made them willing to cause chaos, harm others, and resist God’s plan.
This passage teaches us a sobering truth: Envy, if unchecked, can lead to wicked actions. It starts as a hidden resentment but can grow into full-blown opposition against God’s will. As believers, we must guard our hearts, celebrate others, and focus on God’s unique purpose for us.
Prayer: Father, cleanse my heart of envy and jealousy. Help me to rejoice in others’ blessings and trust in Your perfect plan for my life.
Confession: Envy has no place in my heart, for I am content in Christ.
