Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 33:5. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
Reflections: In ancient Israel, one of the uses of the sound of the trumpet is to give out warning signals. Once the people hear a distinct warning sign from the blast of the trumpet of the watchman, they knew an enemy was approaching and they will quickly put themselves together to combat the enemy. Ezekiel draws an analogy from this and points out the need to equally pay attention to moral depravity warning signs sounded. He was referring to divine/prophetic messages that God gives to warn people about the consequences of their moral depravity. In life, as long as you are warned about an impending danger, it is common sense to do all you can to avoid it. Apart from warning signs pertaining to the status of our spiritual well being, there are signs that also speak about impending danger to our health, academic/professional careers or vocations, marriages, relationships etc. Don’t treat any of these warning signs lightly. Your readiness to respond to such signs will determine the extent to which you can survive and be successful in this life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to discern and to appropriately respond to all warning signs in life.
Confession: I will not ignore warning signs in life. I will never be taken unawares in life.
