Monday, 14th October 2024: You Must Know When to Stand Firm and When to Withdraw!

Scripture Reading: Acts 14:5-7
“And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, they were aware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: And there they preached the gospel.”

Reflections: In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas preached successfully, converting many Jews and Greeks. Opposition soon arose, with some Jews inciting Gentiles against them. Despite this, the apostles boldly continued, performing miracles. As the city divided, a violent plot against them prompted their escape to Lystra and Derbe, where they resumed their mission. This experience teaches us a valuable lesson about resilience and wisdom. Paul and Barnabas demonstrated the ability to discern when to stand firm in their faith and when to withdraw for their safety. In life, it’s sometimes wise to leave a threatening environment rather than stubbornly remaining. To fulfill our divine calling, we must recognize that preserving our lives and purpose often requires knowing when to step back.

Prayer: Lord, grant me the wisdom to know when to stand firm and when to withdraw.

Confession: I Know When to Stand Firm and When to Withdraw.
