Scripture Reading: Judges 8:27
And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.
Reflection: God had proven himself in his ministry. Gideon had been successful in all his military campaigns and had brought deliverance to Israel from Midianite oppression. His kinsmen even wanted to make him a ruler but he refused and referred them to God as the ultimate and only ruler. Certainly, his assignment was over and for the next 40 years there was going to be absolute political peace and economic stability. However something happened which gave him an anticlimax record. He erected an ephod for his people. This became an object of worship which completely launched them into idolatry. His action was described as something that ensnared him and his household. What a sad way to end his divine assignment. In this regard it could be said that he failed to finish well. We must learn to finish well and not to mar up our achievements in life with flesh led actions.
Prayer: Dear Lord, may I not be swayed by flesh led actions. Help me to finish well in all I am assigned to do.
Confession: I refuse to be swayed by flesh led actions. I will finish well in all that I am assigned to do in life.
