Monday, 14th August 2023: You must be mentally resilient!

Scripture Reading: 1 Sam 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

Reflections: When they learned that the Amalekite raiders had taken their families and possessions, David’s allies turned against him. They even discussed David’s execution by stoning, which greatly distressed him. Nevertheless, he drew fortitude from the Lord and was able to encourage himself. He pursued the raiders and restored the families and properties of his allies. David’s response displays his balanced mental fortitude. Regardless of the circumstances, mental fortitude is the capacity of an individual to deal with stressors and perform to the best of their ability. It is otherwise termed “resilience,” a word derived from engineering which refers to the power of a substance or object to bounce to its original form. Like David, you must be mentally resilient. It is the only way to break through amid challenges.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be mentally resilient!
Confession: Mentally, I am resilient.
