Scripture Reading: Luke 11:8
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth
Reflections: Using a story, Jesus taught his disciples a lesson on prayer. He spoke of how a man went to his friend’s house at midnight and asked for three loaves of bread. Initially, his friend will not bulge. However, after what Jesus described as the man’s importunity, his friend consented and gave him the food. The critical lesson is the attitude of importunity exhibited by the man. It was responsible for why his friend gave in to his request. The Greek word translated as ‘importunity’ means ‘shameless’. It indicates that the man shamelessly kept asking his friend over and over again for help until he gave in. The attitude of importunity invariably points to persistence. You need to take a position of persistence in prayer for you to break through. You don’t have to feel ashamed or discouraged. You must keep praying until something happens.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me maintain a position of persistence in prayer.
Confession. I am steadfast in Prayer.
