Scripture Reading: 1Kings 21: 28-29
And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.
Reflection: Stirred by his wife Jezebel, King Ahab of Samaria committed many abominable acts. Now the cup of Ahab was really full and the judgement of God was about to fall. At this time, Jezebel had had Naboth killed on Ahab’s behalf so he could take over Naboth’s vineyard The judgment was announced by the Prophet Elijah. It’s content was heavy. Ahab could have chosen to reject it and still carry on with his wicked ways, but rather he rent his royal cloths, put on sack ones and quickly moved into a fast to seek the forgiveness of God. This response of Ahab to the judgement moved God to alter it. God considered it a gesture of humility. He will no longer bring evil to Ahab’s house during his life time. Within this context, we can understand that to be humble in life is to accept and do what God says. How humble have you been? Remember, humility is what touches the heart of God and moves him to take decisions that will favor your life. Just respond to every word of God in the affirmative!
Prayer: Oh Lord, please help me to do what you say. Give me a humble heart.
Confession: I am humble. I do what God says. His word is my standard. I will remain humble in his sight.
