Monday, 12th June 2017: Avoid making hasty and unguided statements!

Scripture Reading: Mark 6:22-23
And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

Reflections: Herod had no intention of killing John the Baptist. He knew John was holy and therefore feared to kill him. On his birthday however the unexpected happened. During the party held to celebrate the occasion, the daughter of Herodias danced so well that this got Herod very excited. In that mood, Herod publicly promised the girl with a sworn oath to give her anything she wanted. This proved to be hasty and unguided which cost the life of John the Baptist. The girl, under instigation from Herodias, asked for the head of John on a tray. Herod felt so sad but could not help himself. It was too late! He ended up killing an innocent man. It is important to watch what you say and do in your excitement. Be careful not to make hasty and unguided statements/promises in this life. It will save you a lot of troubles.

Prayer: Dear Lord, guide me in all I say and do. Help me to avoid making hasty and unguided statements.

Confession: I don’t make hasty and unguided statements in this life. I am kept out of a lot of troubles.
