Scripture Reading: Acts 14:18
And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
Reflection: There was jubilation and noise making all over. The people were amazed to see Paul heal the man who had never ever walked in his life before . His impotent feet was completely healed after Paul had asked him to stand up. Paul must be a god, they thought. They hastily moved to project Paul as such. They brought in some bulls and some flowers to begin the process of offering sacrifices to the Apostles. When Paul and Barnabas understood what was happening, they tore their clothes in objection to this quest and stopped the people immediately with the words ‘ Men, why are you doing this? We are not gods. We are human just like you. We came to tell you the Good News’. They simply refused to be deified! In life you must watch how people praise you for the good things that you do. Do not allow them to make you feel you are God. You will run into trouble if you do that. Herod for instance met his untimely death when he accepted the praises of people which sought to make him feel like God ( Acts 12:23). No matter what happens, refuse to be deified! Direct people to God, the source of your abilities and gifts!
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to channel all praises to you.
Confession: i refuse to be deified in life by the lips and acts of people. I am what I am by the grace of God. I will not allow people to make me feel like God with their praises and gifts. I will direct all praises to God.
