Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 15:6 (kJV)
“And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.”
Reflections: As Saul prepared to carry out God’s judgment against the Amalekites, he remembered the Kenites—a people who had shown kindness to Israel generations earlier during their exodus from Egypt. Out of respect for this past kindness, Saul spared the Kenites, honoring the memory of their goodwill. This seemingly small gesture reminds us that kindness leaves a lasting legacy and deserves to be remembered. In our own lives, it’s easy to overlook acts of kindness shown to us as time goes on. However, this story teaches us the importance of remembering and honoring those acts with gratitude. Kindness creates bonds that can last across generations, and when we acknowledge it, we nurture a spirit of appreciation that strengthens relationships and uplifts everyone involved.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remember the kindnesses others have shown me.
Confession: I remember and honor the kindness shown to me.
