Scripture Reading: Proverbs 21:23
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Reflections: The Hebrew word ‘ tsârâh ’ is translated as ‘ trouble’. Literarily it means tightness. It speaks of being squeezed in and closed up on all sides. Ultimately to be in trouble is to find yourself in adversity, affliction, or distress. To avoid being in such a situation, the Psalmist directs us to the cautious use of words. He maintains that as long you watch your comments and are careful about what you say, you will save yourself from many troubles. Thus, to keep yourself from trouble, you must operate with guided lips. Guided lips will keep you away from troubles!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me guide my lips.
Confession: I am careful about what I say and how I say it.
