Scripture Reading: Genesis 39:4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand
Reflections: Joseph was much loved and favoured by his father. However, he did not let this advantageous position prevent him from developing the virtues of hard work and serviceability. Hard work refers to engaging in earnest and energetic work habitually with a high focus, while serviceability refers to the eagerness to render selfless service to support a worthy cause. While serving in Potiphar’s house, Joseph’s exhibition of these virtues facilitated his promotion to oversee the assets of his master. Later, he was wrongfully imprisoned. However, his hard work and serviceability helped him secure a favourable leadership position even in prison. His ability to interpret the king’s dream led to his release from prison and earned him the prime minister position in Egypt. His admirable attributes of hard work and being of service, along with divine intervention, played a significant role in his ascent to prominence. Like Joseph, work hard and prove to be serviceable. It will pay off!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be hard-working and serviceable.
Confession: I am hard-working and serviceable.
