Scripture Reading: Act 6:3
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business
Reflections: The Apostles, in their role as spiritual leaders, used a specific set of selection criteria to appoint individuals to the deacon leadership position. One of the most crucial requirements was an ‘honest report’, a term translated from the Greek word ‘martureō’. This word denotes someone with a proven history of honesty and positive moral character. The fact that these candidates were chosen from the ordinary laity within the church underscores the fundamental importance of honesty and strong moral principles in a child of God. Upholding a high level of integrity, therefore, is not just a desirable trait, but an essential aspect that confirms one’s status as a true child of God..
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me exhibit honesty and strong moral principles.
Confession: I am honest and principled.
