Friday, 31st March 2023: Don’t allow yourself to be pushed around!

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 17:37
David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Reflections: Israel was at war with the Philistines. David was sent by his father to check up on his brothers who had been on the battlefield alongside their counterpart soldiers. Goliath, the Philistine giant, had terrorised Israel’s camp when David arrived. David bravely agreed to confront Goliath one-on-one to end the threat. The Israeli military found his choice absurd. So they tried to stop him. David refused to be swayed. Saul, King of Israel and army commander, entered the debate and advised David to give up his quest. David persisted, citing how he had killed a lion and a bear and wrestled his sheep out of their mouths. David, was thus left alone to carry out his plan. In the end, he killed Goliath and stopped his threat, disproving them. If David had succumbed to the sentiments of Saul and the army, he would never have accomplished his epic deed. You must learn to stand firm like David as long as your conviction about a situation is Holy Spirit driven. It is the only way to see God’s glory. Don’t allow yourself to be pushed around.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be resolute in my spirit-led convictions.

Confession: I don’t allow myself to be pushed around.
