Friday, 30th September 2016: A true servant of God demonstrates unparalleled deep respect and love for God!

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12: 28
Wherefore since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

Reflection: The writer of Hebrews reminds us that we must serve God acceptably. This implies that we can claim to serve God but may end up missing it all since what we do may not be acceptable by Him. The word ‘serve’ translated from the Greek word ‘ latreuō’ denotes the duty rendered by a hired servant with defined specifications and in a consistent manner to please his master. Thus the servant does not seek to please himself or others but only his master and he does so by working within defined parameters. This is the mentality the Hebrews writer seeks to carry across to us as children of God. Our service to God will only be acceptable by him when it is rendered in reverence and goodly fear. Reverence and godly fear refers to gestures indicative of unparalleled deep respect and love for God. It ensures that we do not compromise the standards of God. A true servant of God therefore demonstrates unparalleled deep respect and love for God. He serves not to please himself or others but only God ! The grace to do this is available to you. Ask God for it.

Prayer: Oh God, give me grace to serve you in an acceptable manner.

Confession: I live to please God. I will serve him in reverence and godly fear.
