Scripture Reading: Luke 4:5-6 And the devil, taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed unto Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Reflections: After failing in his provocative attempt to get Jesus to turn stones into bread, the devil resorted to another tactic. He was determined to ground the destiny of Jesus at all cost. This time around, on a high mountain, he gets Jesus to look down and observe the earth from that height. Indeed the beauty of the scenery was captivating and offered all the pleasures one will ever desire. At a point, during this moment of observation, the devil in an assuring tone told Him how ready he was to handover all that was within his sight to Him and that all He needed to do was just to bow down and worship him. Jesus proved to be too smart for him. He refused. He knew the devil was only enticing Him to move away from his destined path. The word ‘entice’ is a form of attraction by offering pleasure or advantage. The devil still remains good at using this tactic either directly or through others. Don’t forget about the case of Sampson. He was enticed by Delilah to reveal the secret of his anointing and that led to the end of his ministry (Judges 16:5, 15-17). Watch out: you can be enticed in this life!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me see through any time I am being enticed to go against your will.
Confession: I see through any enticing strategy. I don’t succumb.
