Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 2:19-20
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king? Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
Reflection: Nehemiah had a mission to fulfill. He had to lead his people to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem. It took him a record time of 52 days to accomplish this task but this did not come easily. He faced four major challenges, the first being a mental assault. Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshom, his enemies made ugly remarks about the work that was being done. They spoke so negatively to discourage him but Nehemiah refused to be affected by such words. This allowed the work to continue. One of the greatest challenges you can face in life is mental assault. The positive nature of the mindset you have to accomplish a task can be corrupted by what you hear from people, especially those who envy you and do not wish you well. David’s brothers did so to him when he wanted to fight Goliath. David however maintained a positive mind and still went ahead for the fight. He won in the process and was promoted in life ( 1 Sam 17:24-37). You must learn to ignore and defy negative words spoken to you in life. Ask God for the grace to do so.
Prayer: Oh Lord, give me the grace to overcome mental assault in life.
Confession: No negative words can have a toll on my life. I will not accept and allow what people say to discourage me in life.
