Scripture Reading: John 17:4
I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
Reflections: The crucifixion of Jesus was going to signal the accomplishment of his mission to the earth. As he prepares for this grand finale, he does so with a prayer. In the prayer he confidently informs God that His stay on earth has not fallen short of bringing glory to Him. ‘I have glorified thee on this earth’, He tells God. To glorify means to honor. In essence every action Jesus took on earth honored God. What a life of scripture abiding scholarship! The life of bringing honor to God is what every mortal is expected to exhibit on earth. It is the duty of man. The author of Ecclesiastics captures it vividly with his words ‘Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man’-Eccl 12:13. Your actions in life must aim at honoring God! It is a life time duty you must adhere to!
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me live a life that honors you all the time and throughout my lifetime.
Confession: I live to glorify God with my life. It is my life time duty.
