Scripture Reading: Genesis 31:16
For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children’s: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
Reflections: Jacob could finally settle down and start his new life. Sadly, Laban decided to use him to his advantage. First, he made him work on his farm for seven years as payment for the bride price for his daughter. This was a ruse that forced Jacob to serve an additional seven years. After that, he also never adhered to any agreement he made with Jacob on paying for his labour on his farm. He repeatedly gave Jacob less than the agreed-upon amount, cheating him. Eventually, through Jacob, he became successful and could boast of increased assets and wealth. However, in a carefully planned divine intervention, God legally turned over all his assets to Jacob. This was acknowledged by his daughters, who had been married to Jacob. They noted that God had taken all their father’s riches and rightfully handed them to Jacob. Their confession helps us to understand that God will not look on unconcern while his children are cheated in life. He will overturn such deeds and ensure that his children are appropriately compensated. Indeed God will not allow you to be cheated!
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you will not allow me to be cheated.
Confession: What I have worked for cannot be taken away from me.
