Scripture Reading: Matt 2:13
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Reflections: King Herod requested a report from the wisemen after they discovered the newborn king. His objective was to assassinate the child as quickly as possible. When he realised the magi had left town without fulfilling his request, he became enraged and took measures to ensure the infant’s death. He ordered the execution of all infants younger than two years old. God, however, revealed this plan to Joseph before the executioners moved into action. He migrated to Egypt with the child. As you, like Joseph, accept whatever role God has for you, you will be given the ability to foresee the actions of your foes well in advance.

Prayers: Oh Lord, let me uncover the plans and wicked intentions of my enemies before they move into action.

Confession: I can not be taken by surprise.
