Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:8-10
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
Reflection: Sometimes in life, we become so hard pressed that we feel like giving up on what we do to advance the kingdom of God. It is not out of place to encounter such difficulties but there is a way out to keep you going until you overcome the difficulties. Paul shows this way out when he recounts his story of the troubles that befell him and the other Apostles in Asia. They described their condition as having a sentence of death in their lives. In other words, they felt they will die if they continued with the work. However they did not allow themselves to be stopped. They kept on. What enabled them to move on and to keep up with their work was the inspiration they received from their knowledge of God as the one who raises up the dead. Their understanding was that supposing they keep doing the work and get killed in the process, God could choose to raise them up from the dead so they will continue. What a way to get inspired! Anytime you feel like giving up, remember how Paul and his colleagues inspired themselves. Let your faith in God who is able to do all things make you unstoppable in life. Keep moving!
Prayer: Lord, help me get going even when the going gets tough!
Confession: I will not give up when am hard pressed in life. God is more than able to deliver me. I will keep going in life!
