Scripture Reading: Joshua 6:16-17
And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
Reflections: Jericho was successfully possessed by the people of Israel. The success of this military campaign among others was due to a curse that was placed upon the city and it’s inhabitants as the people of Israel marched round the wall of the city with a shout. Joshua confirmed this when he informed his men that following their shout, the city will become accursed. The word “accursed” translated from the Hebrew word “chêrem” literally means “to shut in a net”. It speaks of a limitation imposed on the ability of an enemy to fight back in the midst of being attacked. Thus before Israel moved into battle, God placed a limitation on the ability of the men of Jericho to fight back. Like Israel, those contending with you over what is rightfully yours will become accursed so you can overthrow them with ease. God will limit your enemies!
Prayer: Oh Lord, let the enemies in contention with what you have ordained for my life become accursed so I can possess my possession.
Confession: My enemies have been limited in power. I possess my possession.
