Friday, 1st June 2018:Don’t expect to be told everything!

Scripture Reading:2Ki 10:31
But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.

Reflections: In fulfillment of prophecy, Jehu ascended the throne of Israel. He did a fantastic job by executing every task that was divinely assigned to him. God highly commended him for his feat and rewarded him accordingly. However in the closing chapter of his life, he is cited as not carefully and wholeheartedly obeying the law of the LORD God of Israel as he failed to repudiate the sins which Jeroboam had encouraged Israel to commit. Why should this be? The answer is simple. It is common knowledge in Israel that as part of God’s general will, idols were not supposed to be worshipped. Jehu reigned as king for 28 years and left this type of idol worship unchecked. Did he really needed to have been instructed by God to stop his people from worshipping this idol (golden calves in Bethel and Dan) as King of the land? It is important to note that in life you should not expect to be told everything. Somethings are obvious and we must be responsible enough to act accordingly. Failure to do this will discolour your life’s story.

Prayer: Dear Lord, apart from what I am specifically required to do, help me discern other tasks I am automatically expected to handle based on your general will.

Confession: I know what is expected of me. I don’t expect to be told everything.
