Scripture Reading: Luke 22: 43-45
And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
Reflection: It was time for Jesus to be betrayed and handed over to his enemies. With this heart breaking news, both Jesus and his three disciples were filled with sorrow as they entered the garden of Gethsemane to pray. At the garden, Jesus left his disciples to pray on their own as he went further ahead to do same. Three times when he returned to check up on his disciples, Jesus found them rather asleep. What a shock? They slept because they were sorrowful. Their sorrows had disengaged them of their ability to pray and had sent them to sleep. When you are sorrowful in life, you must ensure that, it does not stop you from doing what is essential for your survival in life. Jesus prayed in spite of being sorrowful and he benefited from the ministration of angels. This helped him to survive the passion he went through. Don’t ever let the devil use sorrow as a weapon to defeat you!
Confession: I cannot be disengaged from my prayer life by sorrow. I cannot be robbed of doing what I must do to survive in moments of sorrow.
