Scripture Reading: John 18:11
Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
Reflections: A band of men proceeded to arrest Jesus. Jesus knew this was the will of God so he did not resist the arrest. However, Peter could not bear to see this happen so he attacked one of the men, Malchus and cut off his ear with his knife. Peter was ready to defy the authorities present and to stop them from arresting Jesus. Surprisingly, Jesus orders him to stop. He got him to understand that he must be allowed to ‘drink what has been placed in his cup by his father’, indicating that the fate befalling him was divinely appointed and approved. It was at this point that Peter allowed the arrest to take place. It is always important to discern what the will of God is regarding conditions that arises in our lives. This will enable us to meet divine expectations. Failure to do this will cause us to resist what God has ordained which has far reaching consequences. Don’t end up resisting what God has ordained! Seek to know his will and allow it to take place. You will certainly see his glory!
Prayer: Dear Lord, let me know what your will is and help me not to resist it.
Confession: I will not resist what he has ordained.
