Scripture Reading: 2 Sam 9:12
And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
Reflections: Mephibosheth was taken aback when he learned that King David had taken an interest in him. His father and grandfather’s deaths coupled with his inability to walk had thrust him into deep suffering and misery. He compared his situation to that of a dead dog and labelled himself as such in front of David. A dead dog’s life represents being shunned, unappreciated, unconsidered, and a completely helpless state. It is a favour-deficient life that might lead to additional emotional difficulties if no one steps in. David proved to be God sent. He came to his aid and completely changed his situation, bringing him to a life of restoration and happiness. Sometimes, in life, you can be hit by a ‘dead-dog’ syndrome but this condition will be neutralised, just like Mephibosheth’s. God will send a David your way to help you! Your David is coming!
Prayer: Oh Lord, turn my life around.
Confession: Any dead dog situation in my life is turned around.
