Scripture Reading: John 19:38-39
And after this, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came, therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there also came Nicodemus, which at first came to Jesus by night and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred-pound weight.
Reflections: With His head bowed, He finally yielded up His spirit to God and died. He hanged among two thieves. Everything seemed to point out that He was going to be buried just like a thief too. Many watched Him go through this agony and disgrace. Among the crowd were many He had touched with healing, deliverances and other forms of divine interventions. Out of them came Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. They were not going to allow His burial to be conducted in any shameful way. Joseph took possession of His body and provided a new and highly honourable tomb, while Nicodemus brought costly customised perfume to prepare His body for the burial. In essence, they supported a process to bury Jesus in a decent way that only rich people could afford. Like Jesus, even though many people will fail to give you your due honour, never worry. Your ‘Joseph and Nicodemus’ will indeed show up.
Prayer: Oh Lord, let my ‘Joseph and Nicodemus’ Show up!
Confession: There is always a “Joseph and Nicodemus’ ordained by God to honour me.
