Scripture Reading: Genesis 20:6
And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
Reflections: Abimelech believed Sarah was single and wanted to pursue a relationship with her. However, before he could act on his intentions, God warned him in a dream that Sarah was actually married to Abraham. Abimelech defended himself by saying that Abraham had misled him into thinking Sarah was his sister and insisted that he had not been intimate with her. Although Abimelech seemed confident in his ability to refrain from touching Sarah, God made it clear that it was entirely due to divine intervention, not his strength, as he had believed. Abimelech eventually let go of Sarah and was spared of the impending divine judgement. This story shows how God, out of mercy, sometimes stops us from committing sins without us realizing it. It highlights the importance of recognizing God’s grace as the source of our ability to do what is right rather than taking credit for our own abilities.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I acknowledge your grace that enables me to do what is right.
Confession: It is God’s grace that enables me to do what is right.
