Scripture Reading: Joshua 2:11
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.
Reflections: It was time to conquer the fortified city of Jericho. Two spies were therefore sent by Joshua to secretly survey and map out the city. Once in Jericho, the spies lodged in a house owned by a woman named Rahab. Unfortunately, they run into danger as their identity and mission were uncovered. However rather than give the spies up, Rahab chose to hide them and later aided them to escape. She had a good reason for doing so. The whole of Jericho, including herself, had been cowed into fear by news of some spectacular events surrounding Israel. This included their crossing of the red sea and their complete annihilation of the two most powerful kings of the Amorites. Thus the gesture of Rahab was offered out of fear. Like her other country folks, she knew the people of Israel were unconquerable and she dared not touch them. Like the two spies, God will take away the courage of your enemies so that rather than harming you, they will end up supporting you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you that you will induce my enemies to favour the cause of my life.
Confession: God will induce my enemies to favour the cause of my life!
