Scripture Reading:Jas 4:6
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Reflections: The word pride in the Greek is huperēphanos which means appearing above others. Pride is therefore the ‘character of one, who with a swollen estimate of his own merits, looks down on others and even treats them with insolence and contempt. Proud persons however do not go scot-free. Apostle James gets us to understand what actually happens to them. He says God resists them. To resist is to ‘rage in battle against” or to be at war with. This means that God gets to war with and rages in battle against the proud. Thus anytime you exhibit pride, you place yourself in a position for God to fight you. When this happens, you will eventually end up becoming debased in life. A clear example is that of King Nebuchadnezzar who was driven away from his majestic palace by God to the forest to live and eat with beasts for seven years (Daniel 4). Why will you move God to fight you? Just say no to pride and stay humble.!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me stay away from pride.
Confession: I resist pride in life.
