Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:12 -13 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
Reflections: The Hebrews writer draws our attention to the role of expectations in life. First he notes that Jesus Christ came down from heaven with an expectation to abolish the yearly atonement of sin by animal sacrifice which He pursued by offering up Himself on the cross. Thereafter he also notes that Jesus went back to settle in heaven with yet another expectation (where His enemies will be made his footstool in a time to come) which we know from 1 Cor. 15:24-28 as forcefully being pursued and is billed to take place as part of the events of the last days. An expectation is a belief about what might happen or you seek to see happen in the future. Invariably it leads you to work towards achieving it. Without expectations, you become aimless and unprofitable. Carve out positive expectations for your life as led by the Spirit and work towards achieving them.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me live with positive expectations and work towards achieving them.
Confession: I live with divine inspired expectations which I work towards.
