Scripture Reading: Job 42:16-17
After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days
Reflections: Job’s faith was put to the test on multiple fronts. He lost everything he owned and suffered greatly in his health, yet he persisted. It all started when the devil argued out to God that if Job lost everything, he would lose his faith. God disagreed and thus permitted Satan entry to Job’s life. As the devil assailed him from all sides, one thing became clear: he couldn’t kill Job. God prevented him from doing so (Job 1:12, 2:4-6). When it became clear that Job would not give up on God despite his hardships and losses, God called off the Satanic assault and ended his suffering. Job lived in bliss for the next 140 years after this experience of great anguish before dying. Know, like Job, that your faith will be tested and that while any suffering associated with it will come to an end, you will also not die before your time (Psalm 118:17). Just fight on and win the trial of your faith (1Peter 1:7).
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to fight on until it is over.
Confession: I do not give up on the trial of my faith.
