Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 25:17
“Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.”
Reflections: Nabal was a wealthy man, but his arrogant and unapproachable attitude eventually led to his downfall. When David humbly requested food, Nabal’s refusal triggered a crisis that could have led to bloodshed. Fortunately, his wife, Abigail, intervened after his servants—unable to reason with Nabal directly—turned to her for help. Nabal’s stubbornness, described as that of a “son of Belial” (a worthless man), made him unreachable and unteachable. His arrogance cost him his life. Like Nabal, if you adopt a closed mind attitude, refusing godly counsel and constructive criticism, you may find yourself in avoidable trouble. Be open to wisdom from others, especially when it is rooted in godliness.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be open to Your counsel and to wisdom from those around me.
Confession: I avoid a closed mind attitude and embrace a teachable spirit.
