Scripture Reading: Matthew 26:4344
And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Reflections: Among his 12 disciples, Jesus had an inner caucus of 3 (Peter, James and John). These 3, therefore, were his closest confidants and perceived as those who will always be there for him. One day, he took them to the garden to pray. The goal was to ask for prayer support so he could endure his arrest, trial, and death. He proceeded farther into the garden, allowing the three to pray together while he did so alone. However on three instances, he found them sleeping. The help he expected was not forth coming. Although this was disheartening, Jesus did not allow the situation to stop him. As he persisted alone, an angel visited to strengthen and prepare him. If you want to be successful, like Jesus, you must sometimes forge ahead alone when even your trusted associates fail to aid.
Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to accomplish it alone when expected helpers fail.
Confession: I move on when helpers fail me.
