Scripture Reading: Mat 27:13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
Mat 27:14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marveled greatly
Reflections:Pilate was shocked at the number and nature of accusations leveled against Jesus Christ by the religious leaders. He knew it was important for Jesus to respond to these contradictory issues and expected him to do so. Yet Jesus declined and never uttered a word. He was just silent. Stunned by the position of Jesus, Pilate tried to instigate him to still speak by pointing out to him the need to do so but he couldn’t be moved. Silence was still his answer. Pilate was thus marveled, and greatly so. The attitude of Jesus marked a sharp contrast to the norm. He preferred God to defend him at the appropriate time. He knew God was going to do this by raising him up from death on the third day. It is always better for God to defend you than to take up matters in your own hands. On this Good Friday, like Jesus just surprise wicked and envious people who team up against you with false accusations. Just keep quiet and wait for your ‘third day’. God will exonerate, justify and elevate you before their own eyes!
Prayer: Dear Lord, in the midst of persecutions, help me to keep silent whenever I have to.
Confession: God will come to my defense. I hold my peace!
